After playing Sinead Tinker on Coronation Street for seven years, Katie McGlynn is going back to her roots. OK! can exclusively reveal that the actress, who starred in BBC One drama Waterloo Road for two years before moving to the cobbles, has landed a new role in the fourth series of BBC One’s The Syndicate, playing a single mum who is “rough around the edges”.

Katie, 26, won huge praise for her portrayal of her Corrie character’s heartbreaking cervical cancer storyline. Her moving storytelling earned her a BAFTA nomination in the Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment category, something Katie says she was “astounded” by.

“The ceremony is going to be virtual so me and my family are all going to dress up and pretend we’re there sipping champagne,” she laughs.
