We’re used to Melissa McCarthy making us laugh until we cry in comedies such as Bridesmaids and Spy. But in her latest drama series Nine Perfect Strangers, the 51-year-old actress has been showing us her serious side.
Based on Liane Moriarty’s 2018 novel of the same name and from the creators of Big Little Lies, the miniseries has been captivating audiences around the globe with its story of nine stressed city dwellers who visit a health and wellness retreat with a difference. Melissa plays Frances Welty, a former best-selling author who is struggling with her personal life and career. Nicole Kidman is the director of Tranquillum House who is on a mission to transform the lives of her guests. It’s dark, gripping and has a pinch of humour. If you haven’t had your fix, then get yourself on Amazon Prime!
Art thankfully doesn’t imitate life when it comes to Melissa herself. She and her director husband Ben Falcone recently teamed up for romcom flick Superintelligence, as well as the superhero comedy Thunder Force.
Although Ben, 48, is usually behind the camera, he has also taken a step in front of it on several occasions to star opposite his wife.
Away from the screen, the pair, who tied the knot in 2005, are parents to two daughters, Vivian, 14, and Georgette, 11.
