How Y&R’s Sean Carrigan And Christian J. LeBlanc Became A Comedy Team And Are Preparing To Hit The Road.
Soap Opera Digest: So you guys think you’re funny enough to make it into an act, right?
Christian J. LeBlanc: I know it seems unusual because we both have such shy personalties.
Sean Carrigan: But we’re gonna give it a try anyway.
Digest: Christian, before you met Sean, didn’t you have a go at stand-up?
LeBlanc: Only as far as hosting at fan events, which is kind of a good segue into stand-up, but I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time. After Roseanne Barr got her own sitcom way back when, there were all these Vegas comedians in my acting class because they were getting these big auditions for their own series. I was in class with George Wallace, Craig Shoemaker and other amazing people, but I didn’t appreciate their fame at the time. Still, I was impressed with how brave they were. I’d always thought, “If you can do stand-up comedy, you can do anything,” and I had been encouraged for years to do some form of comedy.
Digest: Sean, you’re already a seasoned comic. How did you get involved in that world?
Carrigan: Growing up, I’ve always been a big fan of comedians and when I read Steve Martin’s book, Born Standing Up, about his stand-up career, that inspired me to try it. Doing comedy changed my life, helped me find my voice and gave me another perspective on my acting career. I love making people laugh. It helped me to find the humor in life. You look at people and observe life differently. I’ve been doing acting for 16 years and stand-up for the last seven-and-a-half years.
Digest: How long after Sean arrived at Y&R did you find out he’s a comedian, Christian?
