Stuart Damon, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor best known for his decades-long run as GH’s Alan Quartermaine, passed away on June 26 at the age of 84.
Born to Russian Jewish immigrant parents on February 5, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, Damon launched his acting career on the stage in New York, making his Broadway debut in 1959 in the singing ensemble of the musical First Impressions (James Mitchell, one of his co-stars in that show, would himself go on to daytime fame as ALL MY CHILDREN’s Palmer Cortlandt). In 1965 (four years after he married Deirdre Ottewill, with whom he welcomed son Christopher in 1975), Damon’s star rose with a prominent role on Broadway in the Rodgers & Sondheim musical Do I Hear a Waltz? and by playing the Prince opposite Lesley Ann Warren’s Cinderella in CBS’s broadcast of the musical version of CINDERELLA. “I grew up being captivated by his Prince Charming,” shares Nancy Lee Grahn, GH’s Alexis. “Everyone in my day saw that.”
