JANET JACKSON: ‘TIME FOR THE TRUTH'

At 55, Janet Jackson is reclaiming her rhythm. After that infamous 2004 Super Bowl performance alongside Justin Timberlake, the Rhythm Nation singer disappeared from the public eye. By 2012, she’d married billionaire business tycoon Wissam Al Mana and became a virtual recluse, trading New York for London. But now, 10 years later, Michael Jackson’s little sister is back with a no-holds-barred documentary about the ups and downs of her life. Starting with her controlling dad, Joe, whom she admits was the brains behind the whole Jackson family empire. “My father was very strict,” she says. “He was in charge of my life.”

Twisted and cruel, he passed away in 2018 at age 89. Now she finally feels free to talk about his alleged abuse, which included waking his kids up by “putting matches between our toes and lighting them”.

“Growing up, I didn’t experience my father the way I wanted to. You never knew what mood he was in – whether he was in a playful mood. But the way he played wasn’t even funny,” she explained.
