As Liam Payne’s family, friends and fans grappled with their grief following his death at age 31 on October 16, police were piecing together his final moments before he fell to hisdeath from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following an in-depth investigation – including trawling through 800 hours of CCTV video footage, checking phone messages, conducting nine raids and taking several dozen statements from hotel staff, family, friends and medical professionals – Argentinian prosecutors released a statement on November 7 confirming three people had been charged in connection with the death of the star, who had been holidaying in South America with girlfriend Katie Cassidy after attending a concert by former bandmate Niall Horan.

“Exhaustive and meticulous actions and measures were carried out to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of the artist,” a news release translated from Spanish from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 revealed, referring to a 180page report that had been brought before a judge seeking the arrests. “Illicit conduct was discovered from which three people were charged.”
