After living every parent’s worst nightmare for a harrowing 18 days while their baby girl was missing, the family of Cleo Smith has been spared a long and arduous trial. On January 24, the man accused of taking the 4-year-old confessed he was responsible for her kidnapping.

In Carnarvon Magistrates Court, Terence Darrell Kelly, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge of child stealing. He appeared via video link from the maximum security Casuarina Prison in Perth, where he has been held since two days after the missing youngster was found by police in a locked room at his home.
