Despite the name of the album, there is no mistaking that this project is a Benoit album, but he is strategic and calculating with how the guests are presented and showcased. The albums opening track, “The Ballad of Jane Hawk,” is a tribute to a character in Benoit’s favorite series of novels written by Dean Koontz. It comes across as a sweeping declaration of victory, wrapped in a lush melody aided by Peter White on guitar and Tim Weisberg on flute. The following track switches the pace up a bit, but “Make It Real” continues the musical journey of this project. Jazz vocal sensation Lindsey Webster floats over the Latin-flavored track and transforms the song into an opportunity for Benoit to showcase one of his patented solos by the end of it.
