Legendary cartoonist Matt Groening – the man behind The Simpsons –unveils his new animated fantasy adventure series Disenchantment.
Disenchantment
Available from Fri 17 Aug, Netflix
Ground-breaking cartoonist Matt Groening has been at the forefront of TV animation for more than 30 years – from the hilarious adventures of Homer, Marge and their clan in The Simpsons to the inter-planetary escapades of slacker Philip J Fry in Futurama.
Now Groening has created his first new series in almost 20 years with the Dark Ages-set fantasy comedy Disenchantment. The epic 10-part series, available on Netflix from Friday, is set in the medieval kingdom of Dreamland and has a spirited princess at its heart. But Disenchantment is no cute Disney-style creation.
Dreamland is a run-down realm where rebellious, booze-loving, buck-toothed tomboy Princess Bean, voiced by Abbi Jacobson, battles to take charge of her own destiny.
The series, which also features the vocal talents of Matt Berry, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery, follows Bean as she sets out on a raucous rites-of-passage adventure with her best friends – elf Elfo (Nat Faxon) and smooth-talking demon Luci (Eric Andre).
We met with Groening, 64, in Los Angeles, for an exclusive interview with the comedy genius…
