Back in the autumn, we asked you to cast your votes for the annual TV Times Awards.
As we prepare for the unveiling next week, we couldn’t resist giving you a sneak preview and paying tribute to one particularly worthy winner.
We’re thrilled to reveal that you have chosen Shelley King as your Favourite Soap Star for her moving performance as Yasmeen Metcalfe in Coronation Street’s coercive-control storyline – one of the most powerful plots of recent years.
We caught up with Shelley, 65, during a break from filming, to talk about her win.
Congratulations – how do you feel?
I’m so thrilled, thank you! I wish my mum and dad were alive, because they’d have loved it. This is my 43rd year of work, and it’s a real boost to know that people have been getting something from what you’re doing. That’s been my source of pride about the Geoff and Yasmeen storyline – there are so many positives that people have taken from it.
