Lisa Faulkner may have swapped her apron for a business suit in EastEnders, but she’s still baking treats for her new Walford friends…
Hi Lisa, what can you tell us about your new character Fi Browning?
She’s a no-nonsense businesswoman; she knows what she wants. She’s very confident and she’s very good at charming people.
What’s the story behind you capturing the role?
Sean O’ Connor, the exec producer, told me about the character and asked me to read a monologue, and then asked if I would I play her… I had so much other stuff on and I knew it was going to be a juggle, but sometimes you just have to jump in, don’t you?
Can you identify with her?
There’s a lot of business speak I don’t understand. I spend the whole time asking my boyfriend [MasterChef judge John Torode], ‘What does this mean?’
Have you worked with anyone in the cast before?
There are quite a few people I’ve worked with or met before. I did a show called What’s Cooking? and interviewed Bonnie Langford [Carmel] and Natalie Cassidy [Sonia], and I tasted Scott Maslen’s [Jack] food on MasterChef. I was really scared then, because I couldn’t remember what I’d said about his dishes!
