Aidan Turner roars with laughter when TV Times asks if there’s any chance his brooding hero Ross Poldark may become less gloomy as series three of the hit bbC1 drama progresses.
‘Does he lighten up?!’ grins aidan, 34. ‘I don’t know, but I think that’s just me and my intense look anyway!’
Either way, poor Ross definitely has the weight of the world on his shoulders again. Over the next few weeks, the French Revolution continues to cast a bitter shadow over life in 18th-century Cornwall and his feud with arch-nemesis George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) reaches new lows.

In series one, the couple were heartbroken when their first daughter, Julia, tragically died after contracting putrid throat. Then, last series, Demelza dramatically went into labour while out fishing before giving birth to their son, Jeremy.
