Forget the Brit Bloke From the world’s most ‘wanted’ BoyBand – he’s Nathan Sykes, and he’s got unfinished business to take care of. The Freshly-minted crooner tells it all in an exclusive phone interview.
Lesson #1: Don’t be afraid to keep it real
“As a solo artiste, i’m very different compared to the person i was in the wanted. and it’s just the start of what i hope to be a very long career. i write my own songs, i make my own music and i touch on my own experiences while writing my songs. it definitely makes the process easier because everything’s so personal that you can talk right from the heart and this allows my music to go more in-depth and become more relatable. especially for tracks like ‘i can’t Be mad’ and ‘i remember you’ – you really dig deep into the subject.”
Lesson #2: Lose yourself, to find yourself
“Since starting from scratch, the biggest challenge was finding out who the real Nathan Sykes is. it was an incredible journey – figuring out what i’m capable of, what sort of music i would make, how my voice would sound on the record, would i be good at songwriting, etc. i wrote ‘more than you’ll ever know’ and that was the first time i was like, ‘this is it!’. it felt right. it felt like me.”
Lesson #3: Keep things in perspective
