Fender’s 1954 Stratocaster design has truly stood the test of time. After literally hundreds of minor model variations being made available over the years, the three-pickup, the double-cutaway design remains by and large unchanged. Well, aside from the five-way switch replacing the original three-ways in the mid-70s, that is – a simple change that would unlock a wealth of tonal options and set Fender’s now standard template.

This month, we’re looking at the styles of some of the greatest Strat players, as well as how to explore different genres and modify your guitar too. Of course, you’ll get the most from our lessons if you own a Strat or a guitar equipped with single-coil pickups – but it isn’t essential. There’s plenty to help you improve your playing, whatever guitar you own, so let’s plug in and get playing…
