A Wedding Of His Own

Famously antimarriage, Hugh Grant finally took a wife when he married long-time girlfriend Anna

A Wedding Of His Own

HIS self-deprecating British charm and devilish grin made him the reigning Prince Charming of romcoms, and he’s had everyone from Renée Zellweger and Julia Roberts to Sandra Bullock and Andie MacDowell swooning in his arms. But Hugh Grant (57) has always insisted “happily ever after” is a load of rubbish. As recently as 2015 he dubbed marriage “a recipe for mutual misery”.

“Do I think human beings are meant to be in 40-year-long monogamous, faithful relationships? No, no,” he said. “Whoever said they were? I think there’s something unromantic about marriage. You’re closing yourself off.”

Which is why the actor surprised everyone when he recently tied the knot with long-term partner Anna Eberstein (39) in a super-secret civil ceremony in London.

Even his loved ones appear to have been caught off-guard by the star’s about-turn. “This is a day none of Hugh’s friends ever thought would come,” a source told The Sun. “He’ll soon be a pensioner and has finally become a family man.”

Hugh and Anna have been together for six years and have three children, although they’re so private only the name of their eldest, John Mungo (5), is known. The couple also have a two-year-old daughter and a baby born earlier this year.

They were snapped after the service at the Chelsea registry office in London, not far from their £10 million (R165 million) West London home.
