Over the years, we have witnessed, earmarked and filed away what we feel is the usual route that a label takes. While, in its utmost probability, we know how a show for, say Gucci, Chanel, Moschino, Burberry or Dior will unfold, we witnessed a drift, not a subtle one in any way, during the Autumn/Winter 2018 shows.
The Chanel show held at the Grand Palais had everyone talking. An autumn-like set was created inside the hotel, complete with dry leaves and life-size screens with autumn struck trees. What caught our attention were the exposed fingers in a glove and printed dresses. We would have loved some tweed, maybe in a few different silhouettes. Moving over to technology-driven Dolce & Gabbana show. It was no less than a takeover. We are talking about drones that hovered above the ramp carrying handbags!
It was refreshing to see how the label added a digital side to fashion, giving wearable technology a ‘laggard’ status as we are all confused how to don it. The question is, can we incorporate it as our daily style? Why not? One, you will not have to carry a heavy handbag (unless you are taking a cue from Backpacking With L’Officiel segment for this issue) anymore. A delicate movement of a joystick and you are good to go. It might be the head-turning entry at a champagne soiree you are looking for. Literally! Talking of turning heads, we saw Pierpaolo Piccioli’s designs for Moncler at the MonclerGenius building. This is where we start talking about brands making a ‘statement’. The idea was great, have installations showcasing your collection, but our question is, would you buy this dress to wear for a party or leave it for Lady Gaga?
