Every vegetable plot is unique, but what is probably common to all of us who grow our own is to get a good return on the time and effort involved – to maximise productivity.
The plan that my wife and I have worked out after nearly 50 years is based on two principles – something must be growing all the time (except weeds!) and we don’t walk on the soil.
The plot is divided into 10 beds of equal size, separated by 18in concrete slab paths, and the plan shows what will be growing on one of the beds over the next 10 years. This pattern moves around the 10 beds in a 10-year rotation. Simple!
