As the Old Saying Goes, Eat Clean to Get Lean
The cliché that you are what you eat is absolutely true. Unfortunately for most, the world we live in is littered with poor quality artificial foods that aren’t conducive to the creation of a desirable physique.
For most, modern diets are a spiral staircase leading down to an unhealthy pit out of which it is extremely tough to climb. Most people are all too aware that a high body fat percentage leads to increased susceptibility to diabetes, joint problems and an array of other lifestyle diseases that are commonly associated with obesity, but many choose to turn a blind eye to their ever-expanding waistlines.
Even for the more diligent eaters among us, fat sometimes creeps up on us like a shadowy monster in a horror movie.
Scientists have, through the years, identified a few key reasons for the rise in obesity.
THESE INCLUDE:
Insensitivity to the hormone leptin which helps to controlps to control appetite and metabolic rate,
Low muscle mass which reduces metabolic rate,
Low testosterone which is required to build muscle,
Limited physical activity,
Insensitivity to the hormone insulin and insulin resistance which promotes increased fat storage,
An over consumption of calories (even so call led healthy calories),
The inability to burn body fat as fuel.
FACING UP
Whatever the cause, we are often quick to complicate things and hide behind a host of medical definitions, statistics, labels and facts. But stripped down to its bare essence, fat is nothing more than inactive tissue that stores excess energy, and an increase in your waistline is a reliable indicator that your diet is off the mark.
