An average person today spends about 40 hours a week on the phone, and checks his/ her phone every four minutes. Many people spend as much as 8-10 hours a day on their phone.

Excessive use of social media platforms causes depression in users. There is increased anxiety due to the false sense of urgency in the age of instant messaging. Why is it that we expect an urgent response? Why is it that a blue-tick on Whatsapp without a reply bothers us?

Today, mindlessness is the default state for us. We are constantly distracted. The notifications, the pings, the messages, social media alerts, all distract us from the present moment. Even online, we are distracted, and we scroll mindlessly from one post to another, from one video to the next.
