Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death and disability in the world. Over 17.5 million people die from CVD every year. The most prevalent cardiovascular diseases are heart attack and stroke. In Malaysia, non-communicable diseases (NCD) account for an estimated 73 percent of total deaths, with the biggest contributor being CVD.
Studies have shown an increase in all NCD risk factors in Malaysians, such as being overweight or obese, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high blood cholesterol.
