Breastfeeding is not only the cornerstone of child's health development; it is also the foundation of country's development, says UNICEF.
Many of us may have seen a mother breast feeding her child at home but did you ever realize that if a baby is hungry and the mother is in public places like market, malls, bus stop and railway station then the situation becomes not so friendly and comfortable for the mother to feed her child, especially in urban areas. When the baby cries out of hunger and the mother is not able to feed the little one, it's not a very happy situation for both the mother and her child.
This is just because it's a taboo in our society to breast feed in public that affects both, child and mother. It's difficult to understand but in the ancient times, a mother feeding her child in front of all the family members was the common scenario then but sad to say that a section of our 'modern society' look at breasts lustfully as an object of sexual pleasure. It's high time we alter that perception.
Breast feeding in public does not mean that it can be done anytime and anywhere but the intention is to create safe environment in all the possible public spaces for the women and the baby. People need to learn to be open so that women should feel comfortable and secure while feeding her child in public.
