STEP ONE
Hydrate
You know that thirsty feeling you get between burpee sets, when your body just needs water? Your skin will let you know when it’s super parched too – all you have to do is look in the mirror. “Without moisture, the skin becomes dry, dehydrated and dull,” says dermatologist Dr Claire Chang. Another tell-tale sign: more definition in fine lines. And once you hit the age of 30, it might require more water than usual to get back to a happy hydration level; there’s a drop-off in your dewiness quotient as you get older. (Womp womp.) “Younger women naturally have higher lipid and hyaluronic acid content, so their skin is less susceptible to dryness,” says Chang.
THE FIX Slather on that moisturiser again and again (or at least every morning and evening while your skin is damp). “When you moisturise your skin, you’re also creating a more light-reflective surface that appears healthier,” says skincare expert Renée Rouleau. She recommends looking for a product with ingredients, such as sunflower oil, ceramides or squalene, that mimic your skin’s natural moisturisers. Another way to step up your dewy level? A humidifier. “lndoor air tends to be very dry, so it will pull moisture out of your skin,” says Chang. “Humidifiers add water content back into the air and, in turn, allow your skin to stay hydrated too.”
