Pine Cay, Turks and Caicos
It’s a cliché to talk of white sand and azure seas, but on Turks and Caicos the beaches are extra luminous and the waters particularly blue. The small Caribbean territory has long held a reputation for seclusion, but on the tiny private island of Pine Cay peace and tranquillity is upped several notches. All that’s there is an airstrip, one 12-room resort and 30-odd homes whose owners collectively manage and protect the barely-altered isle. Expect classic barefoot luxury; you’ll spend your days on boat trips or snorkelling, and your evenings dining under the stars, on tables set on the sand.
IN THE KNOW
Plan a trip coinciding with the full moon and you can take an extraordinary night cruise to glimpse the mating ritual of the glowing Bermuda fireworm, lighting up the sea in neon turquoise.
Pick one of Pine Cay’s residential houses, some available to rent, if a 12-room hotel sounds just a bit too busy.
