Eschew flashy establishements to experience local cuisines rustled up by home chefs

Home Away From Home

We are in no way a spokesperson for millennials but in our many dealings with them, the one thing we’ve realised is that this demographic craves authenticity. They want the real deal, and the discernable shift in the way we travel, shop, exercise and dine is testimony. Over the last few years, the food-and-drink world is being viewed through the lens of experience culture, the trends propelled by the desire for novelty. The rise in regional food across the country and the subsequent rise in home chefs can be attributed to this. Indians want to rediscover their own roots and get acquainted with food from across other regions that they haven’t explored, replacing the customary pasta-and-sushi drill for a distinctive flavour and experience. This has led to the rise in home chefs, experts in specific regional cuisines, who are making it their commitment to propagate them. It could be your mom or your next-door neighbour that creates delicious food, but don’t have the platform to showcase it.

This is where websites like Authenticook and restaurants like The Bombay Canteen (TBC) come into play. Through their far-reaching platforms, they are promoting diverse regional cuisines prepared by home chefs, who also often open their doors to diners for an authentic experience.
