According to the Giving USA Foundation’s Annual Report on Philanthropy 2019, American individuals, bequests, foundations and corporations gave a record high of nearly $428 billion to United States charities in 2018, and a 2018 report by online financial adviser/reviewer Wallethub confirmed that Americans are among the world’s most generous people. But, lest you think that the Garden State lags in the giving back department, think again. The study revealed that New Jerseyans are particularly generous, with New Jersey ranking as the 18th most charitable state in America — the top third nationwide — when it comes to giving back.
“Giving back is all about what speaks to you,” said Michelle Dee, vice president of external affairs for Jersey Cares, a Livingston-based organization that provides individuals, families, corporate employees and community groups with a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer.
Whether it’s an opportunity to feed the hungry, support the homeless, help animals, empower women, enhance the environment, promote education, mentor kids or engage in any of thousands of other great opportunities to help others, there are myriad ways to give back in the Garden State and New Jerseyans have proven that they’re dedicated to making a difference.
