Bert And Patti's New Heartache ‘Come Home, Matt'

After six decades in showbiz – most of it spent married to Australia’s most recognisable man and gambling addict, Bert Newton, who publicly battles with a gambling addiction, and later coping with an adult son mired in controversy – Patti knows what it’s like to go through a rough time.

But in recent years, thanks largely to her daughter Lauren and son-in-law Matt Welsh providing her with five gorgeous grandchildren (and counting), life was feeling pretty peachy as she marked her 75th birthday in February. And when Lauren announced she was pregnant with Patti’s sixth grandchild, things were looking even better!

But the joy was short-lived, as the family have hit choppy waters once more. Lauren, 40, has been in hospital for almost two months “due to pregnancy complications”, and as their Melbourne hometown is in the grips of a coronavirus outbreak, she’s been suffering without the help of her beloved mum and dad.

“Missing my gorgeous babies,” she posted to Instagram in July. “Matt, Mum and Dad have done an incredible job.”
