Christmas is a wonderful time of the year – however, it can sometimes feel a little wasteful. With reams of wrapping paper and excess food, there’s, of course, the Christmas tree to dispose of as well. You don’t need to put it out on the kerb for the council to pick up as you can put it to better use by recycling it in your very own garden.
CHIP AWAY
If you have a chipper or shredder, or can rent one, putting your Christmas tree through will reduce it down in size to chips that can be used in the garden. These chips will make a great mulch and can also be added into compost heaps to increase the important brown material. However, you need to let them age before spreading or using them.
Fresh wood chips will actually draw nitrogen out of the soil, taking it away from your plants.
