Neighnours' Emma Harrison - 'WhyI Proposed'

Emma Harrison could feel her voice trembling as, down on one knee at a Gold Coast restaurant, she uttered the most nerveracking line of her life: “Will you marry me?”

Her dinner date, Anthony Wainwright, 45, had just spooned a diamond ring out of his chocolate date pudding, frowning “what the hell is this?”.

“An engagement ring – for you to give me if you want to marry me,” Emma, also 45, responded shyly from the restaurant floor.

After an agonising pause, Anthony finally uttered the magic “yes”!

“I couldn’t resist teasing her a little, so at first I replied, ‘hmm, let me think about it’,” the father of two tells New Idea.

“But then I saw this nervous look on her face and I quickly said, ‘I’m only joking!’ How could I say no? She’s the woman of my dreams.”

“The whole experience was nerve-racking,” Emma recalls, from the Mount Tamborine home the couple share. “I’ve never proposed before. I’d spent weeks planning everything and getting my ring designed.”

She and Anthony, who is a plastering supervisor, began dating in November 2017, and within four months they’d moved in together.

“We get on so well. Anthony is a good, decent guy, and very funny,” says Emma.

Anthony had first laid eyes on Emma when they were both teenagers.
