Washoe and Paiute Native American tribes camped, fished and hunted along the lakeshore during summers but moved to lower elevation camps in Northern Nevada in fall. However, young hunters in the tribes reportedly chased game in the mountains throughout the winter, buoyed over the snowpack by crude snowshoes.
