How to keep the organ that keeps you alive ticking for longer.
The World Heart Federation’s effort to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease resulted in a day dedicated to the organ that keeps us alive. On September 29 every year since 2012, World Heart Day is commemorated to unite people of all countries in the fight against cardiovascular disease. But why pay special attention to your heart on only one day of the year? Don’t you owe it to yourself to keep your ‘ticker’ functioning optimally every day?
Propelled by the desire to enjoy the variety that life offers, as adults we choose indulgences that often negate the tenets of healthy living. Smoking, excessive alcohol, dietary leniencies, physical inactivity, burgeoning stresses of work and decreased sleeping hours have become the norm.
While all of these take a toll on complete health, the organ that takes the most beating is your heart – which has to function with triple the effort to ensure blood circulation to all parts of your body in an attempt to keep you alive for another day, week, and month.
