Its 11:30 a.m. on a weekday, there’s a blade against my neck, and yet I’m mighty pleased. I’m at Truefitt& Hill, in the middle of a shaving routine that was perfected in 1805. Royal Shave seems an appropriate description for a luxurious treatment that includes hot towels, a facial massage and a silky- smooth shave where the seasoned barber’s razor glides effortlessly. There’s something magical about an old-school barbershop luxury experience, letting someone else take care of mundane tasks while you sit back and relax.

I don’t have numbers to back me up but I’m sure that the modern aesthete spends as much time shopping for himself as does his female counterpart. Shopping is no longer just a random act of walking into a store and picking up what you fancy or what fits best. It’s a multisensory experience that means different things to different people. I know friends who head to diverse cities or even countries to shop for a wedding; that’s understandable — you don’t get married every day and you don’t want to leave anything to chance. But what if a luxury mall can transport you to those very same destinations and still have you back home for dinner?
