Sam Mendes – who is best known for his work on the James Bond films Spectre and Skyfall and the Oscar-winning drama American Beauty – is turning his attention to a new play.
Mendes started his career in the theatre, and by the age of 25 he was the artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden, directing a series of classic revivals including Cabaret and The Glass Menagerie. His last show in the West End was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and he now returns with The Ferryman at the Royal Court Theatre (from 24 Apr).
