Where Are They Now?

Becoming the lead singer of a hit band at the age of 15 might be intimidating for most teenagers, but Peter Noone took it all in his stride. After all, the boy from Manchester was used to the limelight having already appeared in Coronation Street.

Leading Herman’s Hermits, though, would be the work that defined his life as they started making chart-topping single after single, from I’m Into Something Good to No Milk Today.

“We were young and naïve to think we could participate in a business that had The Beatles and Elvis Presley in it,” says Peter, now 71. But nevertheless, the band went on to sell more than 60 million records. It made Peter an overnight heart-throb, too. “It was great to have girls running after you. You just had to run a bit slower, so at least one caught you!” he chuckles.
