Standing in the way of England and Alastair Cook is Virat Kohli and his brand of aggressive, proactive cricket...
It is the season of expectations as far as India’s Test cricket is concerned. With the home series against New Zealand wrapped up rather decisively in the favour of the hosts, Virat Kohli and his men will be looking forward to eagerly slice away at another contender for Test supremacy as the nation gets set to be engulfed in yet another historic and mouthwatering Test series contest with England.
England and certainly Alastair Cook have plenty to look forward to on this tour of India. On their last tour to the Indian sub continent back in 2012, they handed India a rare, humiliating home series defeat, this after coming from behind to score a 2-1 series victory that also saw them briefly take over the no.1 Test team position. This time Cook is three matches shy of joining Michael Atherton for the most Tests captained for England. Even more importantly, Cook is three Tests shy from equalling Michael Vaughan as the most successful England captain. If England do an encore from 2012, the number one tag is once again theirs for the taking.
As England have already discovered in this season, things do not always go as planned. Standing in the way of England and Alastair Cook is Virat Kohli and his brand of aggressive, proactive cricket which he now lends as essence to the team he leads. With team India emboldened by new leadership and a buoyant young team composition that is hungry for individual and collective success, England know that as eager as they are to relive history, their challenges have only compounded as they will strive to keep a belligerent, ambitious Indian team at bay.
