It would be accurate to say that many breeders and fanciers are currently concerned about their particular breed in terms of how it is regarded officially, and some may be unaware of who is looking after their interests as far as protection measures go in the face of any government-imposed cull.
These are very uncertain times for all kinds of poultry keepers, and I would like to add my personal thoughts to the current debate (and perhaps confusion) over terminology, its appropriate use and the interests of those outside the exhibition side of poultry keeping...
Specifically in regards to 'rare' breeds I have some personal (NOT DEFRA/PCGB/RBST) views. There are different organisations that classify poultry as 'rare'. The Rare Poultry Society (RPS), the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST), DEFRA and their 'At risk register' and the PCGB.
