Silkmen Show Of Pure Intent
ANYONE wondering if Macclesfield Town’s title tilt would come off the rails after last month’s off-field issues came to light may have an answer.
A technical issue with the owner’s bank was blamed for their January wages not being paid on time, but since then they’ve won both games they’ve played. And what a big win this was.
John Askey’s side sit top of the National League by four points after going to second-place Aldershot and grinding out a win.
It could have been more comfy against an Aldershot that had to play for more than 87 minutes with ten men following the very early red card dished out to Will Evans for a foul in the box on Nathan Blissett.
Danny Whitaker scored the resulting spot-kick before Blissett extended the lead in the second-half.
But Gary Waddock’s Aldershot didn’t go down without a fight but despite Scott Rendell reducing the deficit from the penalty spot, Macc battled to victory.
