Queen Catches Covid In Castle Outbreak

THE Queen is being treated for Covid following an outbreak at Windsor Castle.

The 95-year-old monarch, thought to be triple-vaccinated, is isolating with mild, cold-like symptoms and carrying out light duties after testing positive.

Her illness came 11 days after Prince Charles visited her at Windsor. He then tested positive for coronavirus two days later.

Medical experts say the incubation period for the virus is between two and 14 days. Although it is just about possible Her Majesty caught it from her eldest son, staff believe it is far more likely she has picked it up from one of her aides in Windsor.

Officials said in a statement yesterday: “Buckingham Palace confirm that the Queen has today tested positive for Covid.

“Her Majesty is experiencing mild coldlike symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week. She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines.”

The Queen and her doctors do not yet know which variant she has. Her diagnosis comes as the Government plans to lift all remaining Covid restrictions, including the requirement for people who test positive for Covid to isolate, in the coming days.

It is the first time she has caught coronavirus in the two-year pandemic. Her positive test is bound to cause concern due to her age and increasing frailty.

But royal sources pointed out that the monarch was well enough to sign off a message of congratulations to Team GB’s medal-winning Winter Olympics men’s and women’s curling teams yesterday.
