THE Royal Navy has appointed its first female admiral, shattering “a century-old glass ceiling”.
But Rear Admiral Jude Terry believes she won’t be the last, saying the numbers, breadth of talent and experience of women in the service mean many more will reach the rank and go higher.
The 48-year-old, from Jersey, has nearly 25 years’ service in Britain and around the globe – after planning to stay for just eight.
RAdm Terry takes the helm as Director of People and Training and Naval Secretary responsible for more than 40,000 regular and reservist sailors and Royal Marines.
She is also in charge of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, which operates the Navy’s support ships – plus civil servants and contractors.
