ALMOST 13 per cent of people, or one in eight, develop long Covid after being infected with the virus, a study found.

And about 57,000 people in Scotland are estimated to have been living with the condition for more than a year.

The figure rose from 31,000 during the same period in 2021.

The Office for National Statistics estimates two million people in Britain have long Covid but scientists are still trying to understand what causes lasting symptoms.

A Dutch study of 76,000 people measured long-term symptoms in both infected and non-infected people.
