Most Covid Victims Under 65

Five out of six deaths in past week were younger people as most elderly folk get vaccines

MORE people under 65 are dying of Covid in Scotland than any other age group as the majority of old folk receive their jabs.

Figures from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) showed five of the six Covid deaths in the past week were of people under 65. The other was under 75.

Three of the deaths were in North Lanarkshire, two in Glasgow City Centre and one in Perth and Kinross.

The deaths come as the Scottish Government has urged people in the priority nine categories who haven’t already had a vaccine to come forward for one as it gathers evidence of community transmission of the Indian variant.

Glasgow has already been held back on Level Three because of the spread of Covid in the south side of the city and there are fears of a spike in East Renfrewshire and Midlothian.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Gregor Smith appealed to those in groups 1-9 who may have missed their appointment to come forward for vaccination.
