Rescue As Isle Erupts

Residents and farm animals were evacuated yesterday as a volcano began to erupt on the Spanish holiday island of La Palma.

Around 40 people with mobility problems were moved with the help of the military along with livestock as the eruption spewed lava and a large cloud of dust and smoke into the air on the Canary Island.

Experts had until earlier this month said an eruption on the island was not imminent.
