Awareness about plasma donation has led to an increase in the number of donors. Initially, only 10-15 people had been turning up daily at the plasma bank at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in south Delhi, but now the number of donors has increased to around 35. However, the demand for plasma is huge, putting huge pressure on the plasma bank.
Bumbesh Kumar Soni, a trader from Karol Bagh who got infected with the novel coronavirus on June 9 while distributing food among the poor in Rajouri Garden West, was among those who donated plasma on Monday.
“I decided to come forward after learning the importance of plasma in saving the lives of critical patients. It was a pleasant experience for me and there was no pain. I will donate plasma again after 14 days,” said Soni, a voluntary donor.
