Officials at the two common biomedical waste treatment facilities (CBWTFs) in the city said that in the wake of the recent surge, they had started treating Covid-related waste on priority.
“About 900kg Covid-19 waste was being generated daily around December-end, which we were collecting from 30 Covid centres. In the last two days, the quantity has spiked to over 1,400kg and three more centres have tied up with us. Though it’s a big spike, it’s not that huge in terms of quantity. A few civic bodies have approached us for collection of medical waste from the homes of patients in isolation,” said Vikas Gehlot, director, Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt Ltd.
