Two people were killed and four injured when a three-storey building collapsed in southwest Delhi's Satya Niketan on Monday afternoon. The building is alleged to have been under illegal renovation, having been declared dangerous on March 31 with police having been requested by the municipal corporation to halt the work there on April 11.
Delhi Fire Services received a call around 1.25 pm on Monday alerting it to the collapse of the building. At least five labourers were feared trapped beneath the debris. Police too were informed.
“On reaching the spot, a construction worker told us that six people were trapped beneath the rubble," revealed Manoj C, DCP (Southwest). He added, however, that one labourer had actually been outside the structure and escaped being trapped when the building crashed down. "He received some injuries and was admitted to hospital," the DCP said.
