Abu Dhabi Cityscapes Your Projects Critiqued

Looking at my first photo of the mosque, what you can’t see is that I had been photographing the memorial for a while and was getting very cold and tired. I had packed my kit away and was heading to the car when I spotted a couple of other photographers and decided to stop.

It was only when chatting to them that I looked round and saw this image. Even then I wasn’t sure if I could actually be bothered unpacking my kit all over again, but thankfully I did. If I was to change anything, I might narrow the aperture so that I could get bigger starbursts on the lamps.

I live on the 66th floor opposite a rather fantastic looking building. Being so high up I’m usually above the fog. I woke up at the right time one morning to see the sunrise shining beautifully onto the building. My window opens out approximately four inches, so I had to put my lens out of the window under the frame and manoeuvre the camera carefully into position, with no tripod. For me, this felt like it was a once-in-alifetime photograph, and I was lucky to have had the opportunity to capture it.

My final photo was taken at sunset. You can see the five-star hotel Emirates Palace to the right and new hotels in the middle. I processed the photo lightly to bring out the buildings. This was a simple photo to take; I had plenty of time to set up and then just waited patiently for sunset.
