"Why didn't you return to school after lunch yesterday?" Gadai's friends whispered to him while keeping an eye on the new teacher. “I went to the yatra," Gadai's eyes twinkled brightly, "you'll not believe what happened!" "What's going on there?" the teacher frowned.
“I was telling my pals about the yatra sir," Gadai replied with simple frankness, "the troupe enacted an incident from the Mahabharata, of the Pandavas escaping from the house of wax."
“Hmph," grunted Rajendranath Sarkar and was about to scold when he remembered the previous teacher's advice. While explaining about the school and its students, Jadunath had remarked indulgently, “And there's Gadai! He's self-willed and not very interested in certain subjects. But when it comes to stories, he's all ears! He retains every detail, and his singing...ah! It fills one's heart with joy. He's so loving that in a short time he has become the favourite of everyone in school. Please be patient with him.”
