‘We're constantly trying to evolve'

For more on what’s happening within Buffalo’s offense, here are some highlights from offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s recent press conferences.

Q: With all the success that you guys had last year, you know that your defensive counterparts in the league that are on your schedule are examining your tape from last year in detail in an attempt to stop you guys. What is the process in trying to stay ahead of the curve and a step ahead of your opponents?

BD: I think that’s the same every year. Whether you have some success, whether you’re middle of the pack, wherever it may be, that’s what we do in the offseason as a coaching staff. You study other teams in the league, you study some colleges, sometimes high schools to try to stay ahead of trends. You evaluate yourself. Like I told you guys this last year, we drafted Gabe (Davis) and we didn’t know exactly what we’d be. We’re kind of in that mode right now where we’re stringing good days together. I think we’re better than we were (as the days go along), certainly not where we need to be. And just trying to figure out what we do well too.

Q: Not to say you lacked confidence, but how much more confident — or maybe comfortable is a better word — when it comes to play-calling and designing plays because of the familiarity you’ve had with these guys for more than two years in some cases?
