The 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starts from March 22 onwards, with Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk. Since the IPL’s inception in 2008, the cash-rich league has entered its 17th season. Defending champions Chennai enter the season as the favourites despite MS Dhoni stepping down as captain. Over the years, the tournament witnessed several records being hammered, and this year, the spectacle is set to continue once again. Ahead of a blockbuster IPL 2024 season, we present the major records that can be broken.
MAJOR BATTING RECORDS ON OFFER
VIRAT KOHLI: 35-year-old Virat Kohli, who has 11994 runs in the 20-over format, is six shy of the 12000-run mark. He will become the first Indian to register the feat and be the sixth player overall. Kohli has 99 50-plus scores in the 20-over format and needs one more to register a mark of 100. Kohli is the top scorer in IPL history with a tally of 7263 runs at 37.24. He has 50 half-centuries and seven fifties. Kohli owns 985 runs versus Chennai in the IPL and is 15 shy of the 1000-run mark. He will become the second player after Shikhar Dhawan to reach the milestone. As per ESPNcricinfo, Kohli owns 979 runs against left-arm spinners in the IPL and is 21 shy of 1000 runs. Kohli has smashed 234 sixes and is in line to reach a milestone of 250. He also closes in on 400 sixes in the 20-over format (371). Kohli is nearing 2500 runs in the IPL power play. He has 2335 runs.
