The recently reincarnated allegations of Sri Lanka throwing away the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 in Mumbai has brought more provocative thought to the fore. While it is an arduous task, the investigation into the matter is vital simply because it is time to put money where the mouth is.
The idea of an investigation is a double-edged sword. For one, the International Cricket Council (ICC) through its anti-corruption unit needs to contemplate time at its disposal, money, resources and also, the scope of the investigation if every match-fixing allegation is to be considered. It can then either penalize the person who has made the false charges or seek to find remuneration through boards who would want to clear their team and players. Whether the boards are willing to take on this onus remains debatable. And it will necessitate some kind of reform for criminal law to be pushed, and this jurisdiction might be limited country to country.
