For the Mankading form of dismissal to be dragged and debated as long as it has been in the public sphere is unacceptable. The International Cricket Council (ICC) needs to step in and squash this whole saga about the spirit of the game once and for all. Ravichandran Ashwin is raising the red flag and rightly so. After letting Aaron Finch off earlier in the week, he has spurred on another debate in the direction of the spirit of the game with regard to the run-out dismissal of the batsman at the non-striker’s end.
It does not matter that Sunil Gavaskar and others like him think that they should label this dismissal Brown or browned instead of mankad or mankaded. While they might have their reasons, no other mode of dismissal bears the name of the batsman (or a bowler as a matter of fact) and therefore, this whole idea of naming the dismissal and division over it is futile.
